GOLF THROUGH THE LENS, Chris Gallow – Thanks Ted.
Yesterday was beautiful!! The kids wanted to hit the beach and run around but not beach 2, which is in our backyard. So we jump in the van, of course I grab the camera. We take the 2 minute drive down to the main end where all the people and stores are. Let the kids out go pay for parking, come back to the van to put the little ticket thingy on the dash and… to my surprise when I open the passenger door my camera had shifted! As I open the door the nightmare of every photographers dreams is unfolding before my eyes. Like a slow motion scene from a action movie I see my camera tumbling off of the seat heading straight for the concrete. I make a diving catch inches before contact. My heart is in my stomach but I made the catch. Then bang!! My knee! The pain shoots up my leg. Turns out in my galaint efforts of saving my camera I managed to smash my knee into the concrete. (If you don’t know I have been battling chronic knee problems for 15+ years) Of course its my bad knee. So I collect myself and stand up in brutal pain. Lauren, my daughter, looks at me and says “Daddy you would rather hurt yourself and save your camera, then let you camera fall!” I laughed between stabbing jolts of pain radiating from my knee and shake my head. I explained to her that my camera is not more important than my body but in this case I just reacted just like if her or her brother was in trouble.
Now the reason for the title of this blog is because earlier in the day Ted called me with news of his knee injury due to a baseball crashing into his knee. Seems like a bit of a jinx to me, what are the odds that I would injure the same knee as him almost in the same spot!!
